Community standards, safety guidelines, and terms of use for Upshur County.
Discover Buckhannon™ ("we," "our," or "us") is a hyperlocal community platform serving the residents, businesses, and visitors of Buckhannon, West Virginia. By creating an account or using our services, you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.
If you do not agree with these Terms, you may not use Discover Buckhannon™. This service is operated by WV Commons, LLC as part of the Discover WV Network™.
By using Discover Buckhannon™, you agree NOT to:
- Post content that is unlawful, harassing, threatening, defamatory, obscene, or hateful.
- Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or business.
- Create or maintain an account under a false or fictitious identity, provide false registration information, operate accounts on behalf of others to mislead the community ("sock puppets"), or register additional accounts to evade a suspension, termination, or content restriction. Nicknames and shortened names are fine; a fabricated identity is not.
- Post spam, scams, chain messages, or unauthorized commercial advertisements.
- Share personally identifying information about other people without their consent.
- Post content that infringes on copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights.
- Solicit or engage in illegal transactions, including but not limited to the sale of firearms, controlled substances, or stolen property.
- Attempt to hack, disrupt, or overload the service.
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the service without our written permission.
- Encourage violence, self-harm, or dangerous behavior.
We reserve the right to remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these standards, at our sole discretion, with or without notice.
Discover Buckhannon™ provides tools for users to post about local businesses, job openings, free items, and service providers. We do not verify, endorse, or guarantee any listing, job, item, service provider, or transaction facilitated through the platform.
A. Meet Safely & In Public
Exercise caution when meeting other users, exchanging goods, or hiring service providers. Meet in public places whenever possible. We are not responsible for any interactions or transactions that occur between users. Employers posting jobs must comply with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
B. Administrative Review & Verification Criteria
All commercial, professional, and business listings are hosted at the sole discretion of WV Commons, LLC and remain subject to administrative review, independent background verification, and identity validation prior to or following publication. We reserve the right to require proof of active state or local business licensing, professional credentialing in good standing, and verified physical operating status in Upshur County.
Submission of a business listing does not guarantee publication or permanent inclusion on Discover Buckhannon™. WV Commons, LLC reserves the absolute right to reject, unpublish, or delete any business profile or professional listing at any time for failing to satisfy administrative verification standards or internal platform policies.
Employers posting jobs must comply with all federal, state, and local employment laws, including equal opportunity requirements. Discriminatory job postings are prohibited.
The Alerts feature is a community-sourced notification system. Alerts are posted by verified community members, but Discover Buckhannon™ does not guarantee the timeliness, accuracy, or completeness of any alert.
Do not rely solely on Discover Buckhannon™ for emergency information. Always confirm critical information (school closures, weather emergencies, road conditions) through official sources such as Upshur County Schools, the National Weather Service, and local emergency services (911).
Discover Buckhannon™ is a privately owned and operated digital platform. WV Commons, LLC reserves the absolute, unqualified right to refuse service, deny registration, restrict access, remove listings, or suspend or terminate any account—whether basic, free, or premium—at our sole and absolute discretion, at any time, with or without prior notice, and without liability or obligation to state a specific reason.
Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, grounds for immediate account termination or content removal include, but are not limited to:
- Conduct, history, or submissions that WV Commons, LLC determines to be harmful, disruptive, or contrary to the safety, integrity, or reputation of the platform or the Buckhannon community.
- Failure to satisfy platform administrative, verification, or professional standing criteria.
- Creating or maintaining an account under a false or fictitious identity, providing false registration information, or registering additional accounts to evade a prior suspension, termination, or content restriction.
- Use of the platform to engage in harassment, bad-faith legal posturing, misrepresentation, or defamation against the platform, its operators, or other users.
Termination or refusal of service shall not waive any accrued rights of WV Commons, LLC or relieve the user of any ongoing obligations under these Terms, including indemnification duties.
